Droors / Droors Clothing / DC / Eightball
Founded: 1991
Founder: Ken Block and Damon Way
Location: Carlsbad, CA
Droors Clothing has a long rich history in the skate and streetwear scene. Its founders Ken and Damon met at school and grew the brand to outlandish numbers in relatively no time.
What started out as a clothing line called Eightball, with Ken screen printing his own tees. By 1993, Ken and Damon had started Droors Clothing and abandoned the Eightball moniker after a copyright claim. Droors took off over the next two years. By 1995, they had already done over $7 million in revenue. Many people don’t realize that the “short lived” Droors Clothing brand became DC Shoes, which everyone in the scene knows as one of the world’s most popular skate shoes. DC is just a shortened version of Droors Clothing and the actual source of the brand name. (DC does not stand for Danny (Way) and Colin (McKay), their first two sponsored skaters).
The Droors team not only gave birth to DC Shoes, but it also gave us Blunt magazine and Dub Brand outerwear.
At the end of 1998, DC sold Droors Clothing along with Dub to World Industries. World didn’t have much luck in growing the brand and it eventually folded in 2002.
In 2004, Ken and Damon sold DC Shoes to Quicksilver for $87 million. Yowza!
