Kevin Staab and Joe Johnson were both very well known pro skaters in the mid to late 80s. Staab rode for Sims for a long time and Joe Johnson was on Vision. They were both primarily vert skaters. Around 1990 things at Vision got dicey (to say the least) and Joe left to start Shine Skateboards with Kevin Staab. At the time street was taking over and most decks had moved from full sized to slimmer dimensions optimized for street skating. Shine Skateboards was all about old school vert decks that were sized bigger and even targeted skaters with larger body sizes.

Not only was the company short-lived, but even when they were around they didn’t sell very much stuff – hardware or soft goods, so anything Shine related is super rare.
